When I feel disconnected, distracted or stressed, I like to go outside and sit in the woods. Being still and quiet, with only the movement of my breath, opens me up and allows me to see and feel what is there. I hear birds singing their lovely songs. I hear and see the trees move as the wind works its way through their branches and leaves. I feel the air around me, alive and full of light. My feet hold me in a strong connection to the dirt and rocks, to the Earth itself. And even in winter, I am surprised to discover little pockets of color – red berries still hanging from a small plant that has lost all its leaves. I take a deep breath in, and I let it back out. I feel better.
