This post is by guest blogger Dan Cox. Thank you, Dan!By the sea, I take in the sights and sounds of the crashing waves, the rumbling stones from the receding waters, and the wind blowing the sand, and there is a sense of calm and peace. That peace, rooted in faith of our existence on earth, gives me pause to acknowledge the many gifts provided to us all. The rhythm of the waves and the sense of solitude I feel when seeing the expanse of the sea let me know that there is a presence here beyond all understanding. The solitude and peace of the steady rhythms allow for a spiritual time of contemplation. With gulls flying overhead and the scampering of birds dodging surf while leaving their intricate footprints, I have time to pause and reflect.Looking over the worn, glossy stones and delicate shells, once home to other living creatures, leads to further contemplation of life and a spiritual presence. Finding an occasional piece of sea glass adds to the mysteries. I wonder about the history of this special treasure. The sight of a seal peering from the wind-blown surface of the sea adds a different kind of reassuring presence. I take the time to breathe deeply and inhale the scent of fresh sea air.I am reminded to take time to embrace serenity and regain strength. It is time to live in the moment, be at peace with the world around me, and experience the simplicity of all that is found here.
